What was your upbring?
I was raised in a small, beach town in southern New Jersey where there is incredible support for live music. I grew up in a musical household where the guitar was always being played or my sister, Zinnia Moon, was always singing. She introduced me to live performance although she is much younger than I am. My Dad introduced us to the acoustic guitar at a young age and we often find ourselves jamming together in our music room.
How did you get your first guitar and do you still have it?
I have gifted my first acoustic guitar at the age of sixteen, and I do still have it today! A lot of songs have been written and inspired while playing my GS Mini Taylor, so it holds a good amount of sentimental value to this day.
You were a street performer on Long Beach Island. How was that? Would you like to take that type of performance to another location like Nashville or Seattle, WA?
It all started at an open mic which heavily influenced my passion for live performance and built a foundation for my musicianship as a singer-songwriter and artist over the years. Some of my first gigs included performing to the passerby in the height of summer when there was enormous traffic. Some recognized me as “the girl who sang to the street.” Each audience and opportunity has prepared me to be where I am today; I am thankful for that. I have since then opened for national acts including Stephen Kellogg, The End of America, Robert Cray Band, and many more. My upcoming tour plans include MayDay Music Festival on May 9th in Yaphank, NY with Spin Doctors, Deer Tick, Justin Townes Earle, and Dave Hause and The Mermaid. I am always up for a road trip, so I would be more than happy to hit the road with my music and introduce it to new audiences within a live setting.
How was it to perform as part of the Sunshine Series?
I created The Sunshine Series in 2018 which is a curated series of acoustic performances that showcases the raw talent of professional singer-songwriters and musicians. The objective of The Sunshine Series is to create a unique listening experience for those who love music. Performing a part of the showcase is a great way for aspiring musicians to build their network and audience, and I am happy that I get to support the featured artists that come through.
You just released your single “Everything will be Alright”. How do you feel the release of the single has been?
I have been receiving so much love for “Everything Will Be Alright” since its official release on February 26th, 2020. I am so grateful for the enormous support around this release and its positive feedback from listeners and fans.
How are you preparing for your upcoming tour?
I have been arranging players to join me for select performances throughout the upcoming tour and putting extensive hours into rehearsals and the necessary planning to execute an awesome live performance! Unfortunately, the new outbreak of Coronavirus has greatly affected some of my upcoming shows. The safety of everyone’s health is most important. My performance at Tilles Center of Performing Arts with Tower of Power that originally was booked for March 26th, 2020 has been canceled. I will be keeping my fans updated with any current information regarding future show dates on social media @saharamoonmusic.
