Brooklyn singer-songwriter Elijah Wolf is set to release his new LP, On The Mtn Laurel Rd, via Old Flame Records on Sept. 7. The album’s nine tracks were self-produced and mostly recorded in Wolf’s bedroom.
Following the release of “Wilson State Park,” Wolf has dropped a brand new track, the mid-tempo “Tell ‘Em.” It’s infused with flowing beauty as Wolf’s stirring folk-rock vocals and earnest lyrics denote great pain and understanding. The track ends with a solemn, stark lap steel guitar outro that will transfix any listener with its woodsy ambiance.
Wolf says of the new track:
“Tell ‘Em” was written about my time visiting my Grandfather towards the end of his life. I wrote this song after a specific conversation we had in which he seemed confused and lost, and I couldn’t quite make sense of this. It was as if he was trying to tell everyone something but couldn’t quite find the words. I went home that evening and wrote this on my acoustic guitar to try to make sense of it all. I wrote the song to feel triumphant and strong but was left with more confusion which explains the spacious lap steel outro.
On The Mtn Laurel Rd was inspired by the sale of Wolf’s childhood home in the Catskill Mountains and the passing of his grandfather, who was also his closest family member. “Releasing this album now feels like a weight off my chest, like every bit of frustration and nostalgic loneliness all leaving my body at the same time,” says Wolf. “Making this record was the greatest therapy session I’ve ever had.”
Wolf will play a record release show on Thursday, Sept. 6, at Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn, N.Y., with support from Ensemble Entendu (aka Photay & Sam O.B.). Admission is free with an RSVP.
