Song Premiere: Pike & Sutton “New Year’s Resolution” with John Popper

Vocalist Patrice Pike and guitarist Wayne Sutton first gained renown in the early 1990s when they formed the band Little Sister. The group released their debut EP in 1994 and toured as part of that year’s H.O.R.D.E. tour. Eventually they changed the group’s name to Sister Seven and performed into the early 2000s. The two musicians, who first met while Texas high school students, remained friendly over the years and recently joined forces once again as Pike & Sutton. Earlier this year the pair released an EP The Evolution Of Pike & Sutton Live and their debut full-length studio effort as Pike & Sutton, Heart Is A Compass, will follow in 2020.

Today we are premiering their fitting cover of “New Year’s Resolution” which appeared on Otis Redding and Carla Thomas’ 1967 album King & Queen. Pike & Sutton also enlisted H.O.R.DE. tour co-founder/Blues Traveler frontman John Popper for the track. Popper explains, “When Patrice Pike calls, you know you’re gonna be in on something special, intimate, and true that makes you smile. This session was a perfect example. It felt like falling gently onto your back in tall grass…you can count on its surprise…” She adds, “From the time I met John Popper when we were new on the scene, I not only loved his incomparable harmonica talent, but his crushingly emotional and spot on voice. I believed every word he sang and I’m thrilled we got to sing this amazing classic together, in the same room, face to face in the moment.”
