The Seattle-based band Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio have an exciting start to the new year ahead of them. The trio comprised of Delvon Lamarr, Jimmy James, and Dan Weiss will look to further explore their soulful style of retro-inspired jazz-rock on their forthcoming sophomore studio effort, I Told You So, due out January 29th on Colemine Records.

The nine-track follow-up to 2018’s Close but No Cigar will feature the previously-shared singles “Fo Sho” and “Call Your Mom”, and today Live For Live Music is excited to premiere the album’s third single which hears the band boldly cover the 1984 Wham! ballad, “Careless Whisper”.

Delvon Lamarr and company stick closely to the song’s trademark melodic makeup, with hints of soulful, even sexual undertones courtesy of James’ lofi-inspired lead guitar lines which play overtop the dreamy foundation of Lamarr’s 60s-era organ.

Lamarr tells Live For Live Music of their relaxed take on the George Michael-penned classic,

We were doing a show here in Seattle at the beginning of the band and Jimmy, in between songs, kind of quoted a piece of ‘Careless Whisper’. I’ve never played that song before but I just went for it. Slashing and hacking my way through it. It started out as a little snippet that we just threw in every now and then and the crowds went nuts every time we played it. so eventually we decided to play the full song. And at the request of my wife, founder and manager Amy Novo to record it, we did. It’s her number one requested song. George Michael’s timeless classic ‘Careless Whisper’ DLO3 style
