Gabe Dixon’s new album Lay It On Me is set for release on June 25. This is the third solo recording from the keyboard player, who toured and recorded for over a decade with his trio the Gabe Dixon Band, a group that also featured current Wood Brothers member Jano Rix. Dixon has gained renown over the years not only as an instrumentalist (while appearing with Paul McCartney, Alison Krauss, O.A.R. and many others) but also as a stirring, expressive songwriter. Lay It On Me, which is available for pre-save, highlights both aspects of Dixon’s artistic command.

Today we premiere ““I Got Your Love (You Got Mine).” In early 2019 Dixon began his tenure with the Tedeschi Trucks Band and he enlisted Susan Tedeschi to join him on this recording.

Dixon tells Relix, “I Got Your Love (You Got Mine)” is an uncomplicated love song that simply celebrates and affirms the good feelings in love and romance. I wrote it with my friend, Shannon LaBrie, and although we didn’t plan to write a duet that day, at the beginning of our session, we realized that neither of us had ever written a proper duet before, so we went for it, and it turned into a sweet and soulful song. I especially like how the chorus modulates up to a higher key—that helps accentuate the joy in the lyric. The voice memo we recorded at the end of the day featured lo-fi sound, mistakes, and an out-of-tune piano, but still, every time I would mine through my song demos looking for material for the next album, this one would come on and made me smile—I just had to put it on the record. Producer Dustin Ransom and I layered the track with acoustic and electric guitars, electric pianos, synths, Q-Chord, and other bell-type sounds. To me, the drums sound electronic and programmed, but they are all acoustic. When it came to finding a duet partner for the song, I shot for the moon and asked my friend and bandmate in Tedeschi Trucks Band, Susan Tedeschi. I am so thankful that she said yes. She is such an amazing singer, and her vocals on this song are simply heavenly.”
