stream The Voodoo Children's fuzzy indie-psych-pop song "Let's Get Married"

The Voodoo Children is a new-ish Nashville collective led by Paper Route frontman JT Daly, and they’re currently prepping their debut album Instant Nostalgia. They recently released lead single “Caroline” and we’re now premiering the second single, “Let’s Get Married.” JT says:

This was a special song to make. I wrote it with my wife (Sad Penny [aka Jo Meredith of The Saint Johns]). We were already married (in case you wondering if the “yah, let’s get married!” chant helped us realize our soulmate was the other writer). I love the line “when everything changes I want you there”. To me, that’s at the core of every human relationship. How they handle “change”. I’ve also been wanting a love song that shimmers with guitars and tambourine for a while now. There’s just something about that combination. It makes me feel.

JT and Jo’s voices swirl together to create something greater than the sum of their parts, and they soar over the fuzzy, sorta psychedelic instrumentation. The whole thing is kinda somewhere in the ballpark of early Broken Social Scene and New Pornographers, and if you like that kinda stuff you should give this a listen. Side A of Instant Nostalgia is coming out as an EP this spring, and the full album will follow (release dates TBA). In addition to JT Daly and Sad Penny, Instant Nostalgia features contributions from Daniel Tashian (producer and co-writer with Kacey Musgraves), K.Flay, Bantug, Abby Wright, Angela Plake (Bandit), Oran Thornton, Josh Lippi, Josh Lovell, and New Radicals’ Gregg Alexander.

Unless coronavirus gets in the way, Voodoo Children are scheduled to play a hometown show on April 10 (tickets).
